Mixing & Mastering
For independent artists who are serious about how their music sounds and where it goes.
A good mix is the difference between a recording that sounds like it was made in a bedroom and one that sounds like it belongs. Not because the bedroom recording was wrong. Some of the most important music ever made started there. But mixing is the craft that takes what you recorded and makes it speak at the level it deserves.
We hold every project to the same standard, regardless of budget or genre. That means working through the balance, the space, the dynamics and the detail until the music sounds right. Not just on studio monitors, but on every system a listener might use to hear it.
When your release is finished, it is ready. It will hold its own wherever it is played. Streaming platforms, club sound systems, radio, sync. That is not a promise, it is simply what the work requires.
MIXING
Mixing
Mixing is where a collection of recorded tracks becomes a piece of music. It is the process of making every element sit in its right place. The balance between instruments, the space around a vocal, the weight of a low end that hits without muddying everything else.
All mixing is handled personally by Zab Spencer. Every project begins with a conversation about the music, the reference points and what the artist is trying to achieve. The mix is built from there, not from a template.
Revisions are part of the process. We work until it is right.
MASTERING
Mastering
Mastering is the final stage. The process that takes the completed mix and prepares it for the world. Level, dynamics, tonal consistency across an album, format compliance. Done well, it is invisible. Done poorly, it undermines everything that came before it.
We do not treat mastering as an afterthought. For independent artists building their career, the quality of the master is one of the few things that separates a release that is taken seriously from one that is not.

How we work together
01
Start with a conversation
Get in touch and tell us about your project. Before anything else, we want to understand the music. The genre, the references, what you are going for and what stage you are at. This is not an audition. It is how good work starts.
02
We agree the brief
Once we are on the same page creatively, we confirm availability, timeline and the specifics of what will be delivered. You will receive clear file transfer instructions and everything you need to get your stems across to us.
03
The work
We work through the project to the standard agreed. You will hear the mix before it goes to master. Any revisions are handled as part of the process, not as an extra conversation.
04
Delivery
You receive your final files. Release-ready, correctly formatted, and accompanied by any delivery notes relevant to your distribution route. The project is done when it is done properly, not when the clock runs out.
"We have been working with Zab Spencer since the very beginning of Animor, and it is hard to put into words just how fundamental he has been. As a Lead Mixing Engineer, his technical studio knowledge is vast and encyclopedic, but it is his role as a mentor that truly sets him apart. Zab has been there for all our most meaningful moments, providing the 'supreme best' advice, not just technically, but artistically. Working with him is a true 'safe place'; he creates an environment where you feel protected and understood. He is a rare talent who combines immense expertise with deep human wisdom."
Romina Kalsi — Animor, Switzerland
"Zab has an extremely good ear for music, not only technically, but in terms of understanding what is required for the genre. He made my nylon-strung guitar sound like an expensive Takamine or a Martin. He got an excellent sound on my vocals and supplied all the stems, sample rates and bandwidth parameters needed for all relevant broadcast situations. I would recommend him unreservedly."

Releasing in Dolby Atmos?
Spatial audio is now available to independent artists releasing on Apple Music, Amazon Music and Tidal. An Atmos mix is not a post-production add-on. It is a different creative experience for the listener, and it requires a different approach from the start.
We deliver Dolby Atmos mixes for music projects, working in a purpose-built Atmos suite in London. If you are considering a spatial audio release, the time to think about it is before the mix, not after.
